Who teaches you

Meet the people behind your training.

The team varies between trainings. Ask Gem which teachers will be joining October 2027. Andy contributes online and through pre-training sessions in the UK.

Gem sitting in meditation on a terrace

Gem

Founder and lead teacher

Gem practised for more than a decade, but finding the right teacher changed her relationship with yoga. After her 200-hour training she left the corporate world to teach, then continued studying across lineages. Her aim is to be the teacher she needed: approachable, playful and deeply committed to yoga beyond the postures.

Max

Mantra, meditation and asana

A 2025 House of Zen graduate, Max found yoga through his corporate workplace and went on to explore its depth beyond the physical. His sessions bring together mantra, meditation, chanting, breathwork and asana, with an open and sociable approach.

Three honest doubts

Thinking about it, but not sure you are the type?

“I'm not advanced enough.”

You do not need to arrive with perfect postures or a teaching voice already worked out. This training is for people who love yoga and want to deepen their practice, whether they plan to teach or not. Talk to Gem about your experience and suitability before booking.

“I'm too old to start.”

The course is about learning to teach safely and authentically, not fitting an image of what a yoga teacher looks like. Your experience, goals, injuries and learning needs are part of the pre-course questionnaire so support can be planned around you.

“I can't fit it around my real life.”

If annual leave or term dates make a full residential course difficult, ask Gem about individually agreed off-site study and UK catch-up sessions. These are not an automatic shortcut: all required hours and assessments still have to be completed, and private make-up sessions can cost extra.

Why people teach

Yoga gave you something. Teaching is how you hand it on.

  • To share something that has helped you

Help other people find their way into yoga, with classes that feel welcoming rather than intimidating.

  • To do meaningful work

Explore teaching in a studio, online, privately or in a corporate setting. Learn the practical business skills as well as the yoga; earnings and jobs are not guaranteed.

  • To reach people who do not feel yoga is for them

Learn inclusive language, adaptations, consent and safe class planning for different bodies and levels of experience.

  • To understand your own practice

Go beyond following a sequence. Explore anatomy, philosophy, breath and the reasons behind what you practise.

  • To find your teaching voice

Practise cueing and leading a room, with observations and feedback instead of trying to copy someone else's style.

  • To keep learning with others

Graduate support groups, mentorship and study groups help your learning continue after the residential training.

Questions

Straight answers.

Will I really be qualified to teach?

For the 200-hour course, you must complete all required hours, teach your final 60-minute class with a written plan, pass the written exam and complete the asana assessment. Successful graduates receive a certificate enabling an application for Yoga Alliance registration and teaching insurance. Registration, insurers and employers may have their own requirements. The written pass mark is 70%, with a retake available if needed. The 30-hour course is continuing education, not an initial teaching qualification.

I'm nervous about the exam or need learning support.

The quizzes and assessments are there to develop understanding, not catch you out. The guide describes regular feedback and learning accommodations, including pre-reading, larger print, coloured paper and verbal support. Tell Gem what helps you on the pre-course questionnaire or during a call so support can be agreed before arrival. Passing is still required for the 200-hour qualification.

Do I have to want to teach?

No. The 200-hour course is also for people who want to deepen their own practice and understanding. If you do want to teach, the course includes business skills and graduate mentoring. Ask Gem which event best fits your experience and goals.

What if I cannot attend the whole residential course?

The guide allows individually discussed off-site modules and UK catch-up days, including in-person and online sessions, for some planned absences. This depends on which sessions you would miss. Full attendance or agreed make-up hours are required to graduate; private make-up sessions carry an additional cost. Agree the plan and any fees with Gem before booking.

Are there payment plans?

The guide offers four-payment plans for YTT and a £500 non-refundable deposit. Ask Gem for the current 2027 total, room availability and payment schedule. The room prices shown here are guide rates, not confirmed quotes for every event, and the old early-bird offer has expired.

What if I need to cancel the teacher training?

The supplied YTT policy says the £500 deposit is non-refundable. It states a refund of 25% of the remaining balance for cancellation 30 days or more before the start, and 5% for cancellation 14–30 days before the start. It also states that tuition fees are non-refundable, discretionary partial refunds may be considered in special circumstances, and no refunds or credits are given after training begins. Because the wording overlaps at 30 days and separates tuition from the remaining balance, ask Gem to confirm exactly what applies to your booking before paying. Read the full policy in the PDF. The school states that payments are refunded in full if it cancels a training before it begins; the guide has separate force-majeure terms and recommends travel insurance.

Are the retreat cancellation terms the same?

No. The supplied retreat policy states: eight weeks or less before arrival, no refund; eight to twelve weeks, 25% refund minus the admin fee and deposit; twelve to sixteen weeks, 25% refund or transfer to a friend or family member, minus the admin fee and deposit; more than sixteen weeks, 50% refund minus the deposit. No refunds or credits are given after the retreat starts. It states payments are refunded in full if the school cancels a retreat before it begins. The stated time bands overlap at their boundaries, so confirm the applicable band, deposit and fees with Gem and read the full policy before paying.

Can I bring a partner who is not taking the course?

The guide says a partner may share your room and join meals and downtime, while respecting the training sessions and other students. Their fee covers food and accommodation only. Ask Gem to confirm availability and their separate price.

Does the 30-hour course count towards a 200-hour certificate?

No. Creative Sequencing is standalone study or continuing education. Dedicated practitioners, trainees and teachers can attend, but only teachers who already hold the required active 200-hour or higher Yoga Alliance qualification can bank the hours as continuing education. The guide requires attendance, engagement and shared teaching, with no exam or assessment for its completion certificate.
